ABOUT

For over a decade, the Harmelogic collective has been exploring the rich terrain where modern innovation converges with timeless tradition. Their original compositions stand out for their unique blend of intricate rhythms, soulful melodies, and vibrant harmonies, all deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Balkan music. While their approach is contemporary, their sound is enriched by a profound love and respect for the traditions that shape their artistry.

The collective's journey began with the serendipitous meeting of its members in China, where they first performed together at the Nanjing International Jazz Festival. That initial encounter sparked an enduring musical synergy, one that would continue to grow and evolve as they explored new territories in sound. It was during this time that their collaboration with the extraordinary Bulgarian composer and virtuoso Zhivko Vasilev came into focus. Zhivko, a master of the traditional kaval, brings a contemporary twist to the instrument, pushing its boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in tradition. His contribution has been central to the collective’s distinctive sound, offering a musical dialogue unlike anything heard before.

As their musical connection deepened, the trio—comprising Zhivko Vasilev, Kris Korat, and Damir Mazrek—began to weave complex rhythms, expressive melodies, and dynamic harmonies into their compositions. Their music provides a fertile foundation for intense improvisation, giving the musicians the freedom to express themselves with unique intensity and emotional depth. Through each performance, they showcase their exceptional improvisational skill, blending intricate, disciplined musical structures with raw, spontaneous expression.

Their music serves as a bridge between the past and the future, rooted in tradition yet enriched by modern creativity. Each piece crafted by the collective is an exploration of the intersection between tradition and contemporary artistry. Their work invites listeners into a world where complexity and emotional resonance coexist in perfect harmony, captivating audiences with its depth, fluidity, and powerful expression.

With every note, the collective continues to craft a sound that is as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally evocative. Their journey is one of exploration, growth, and transformation, all fueled by their shared passion for music that transcends cultural and musical boundaries.
